Elite Squad

The South West is fortunate to have three riders on the Elite Squad who are qualified for selection to compete at the 2011 European Championships at Florac in Southern France:

Karen Jones with Macademia

Annie Joppe with Dilmun

Nicky Sherry with Shimmering Blue Jasmine

By putting themselves forward for the honour of selection, Annie, Karen and Nicky will, in the main, forgo any chance of winning EGB National Trophies.

Macadamia is a very handsome horse with an outstanding work ethic.   Macadamia has a slightly awkward streak, which probably makes him the good horse he is. He sets out to do a job and to finish it.    He is enthusiastic about everything he does.  We train on hills and use excursions to nearby Exmoor to top up his fitness training.    He achieved a Bronze Award in the 120km Stag Class at Golden Horseshoe  in 2009, proving that he can not only tackle race rides but the more technical courses too.    I admire him enormously; we get along very well.

Dilmun's View
SHE only listed my FEI achievements but obviously a horse of my calibre has done so much more.  I am the important part of this partnership, indeed I make the decisions.  I am the ruler of my own small herd (clearly because they all realise that I am the best).  Another achievement is mud-rolling expertise with a unique labour-saving method of getting dirty (none of the others can manage this technique!).  It goes without saying that I only need to glance in the direction of one of my minions, both human and horse, and they scurry off to do my bidding.  I hope SHE’S chosen a nice picture of me!
