Jo Claridge was unanimously elected Chairman of Endurance GB by the Management Committee when John Yeoman stepped down after a three year term of office.  Jo paid tribute to John’s sound  leadership,  as  the organisation is now in a very healthy financial state, and is pleased that he is prepared to continue as Finance Director.  Des Payton  has retired from the MC but will continue as Team Manager for the Elite Squad in the run up to the World Championships in Kentucky.

The Management Committee has a challenging time ahead but the full contingent of committed and enthusiastic members intends to work efficiently to best serve the members of Endurance GB.

Emma Miller has agreed to be Vice Chair, with Deb Bennett continuing as Company Secretary.  Sue Broughton stays in the International Chair.  Andrew Chisholm takes over Health and Safety and Val Swann becomes Chairman of the Rides and Rules Committee.  Nikki Routledge takes on PR Chairman.  This is not a complete list of the offices but that will be published imminently.

Jeni Gilbert, Emma Miller, Len Beach, Deb Bennett, Charlotte Hirst, Andrew Chisholm, Philip Hirst, Nikki Routledge and Karen Collier were all elected to the Management Committee. Pat Conn and Paul Silk (SERC) make up the full contingent.

Many thanks go to Yvonne Clark, Caroline Cherry, Martin Moore and Sally Flatman who unfortunately were not elected this time

Celebration for Jill Thomas as she completes over 1000 Golden Horseshoe Miles!
At the Golden Horseshoe Ride on 11/12 May, Jill Thomas, Champion endurance
rider achieved a Gold Award on her Akhal Teke horse, Pompeii in the Exmoor
Experience (2 day 80K) Class. The Gold Award was the icing on the cake for
Jill, who has competed at Golden Horseshoe for many years.  In fact celebrations
were in hand, as last week’s success meant that she has clocked up 1025 Golden
Horseshoe miles since her first competition in 1986.Pompeii is relatively new to
Jill, who has recently moved from riding Arabian horses to Russian-bred Akhal
Tekes.   Jill now hopes that Pompeii is going to be her future international star.
“He went like a dream and made it all seem so easy.    He really loves his job and
we now have to qualify him for FEI competition.  I think it must be a good omen that
Pompeii helped me reach my 1000 mile Golden Horseshoe goal.   I am very hopeful
for him.  Golden Horseshoe is a fantastic competition – it really tests the horses
but I would not miss it for the world!”.Pompeii’s next outing will be at Cirencester
Park when he will do the FEI 1* 90K competition.Jill broke British and European
speed records at the 1993 European Endurance Championships at Southwell.
Since then she has worked with equestrian companies to produce informative
books and specific endurance products, helping to raise the profile of this fast
growing equestrian sport.

WMNews article on Camelford Ride

Congratulations to Carri-Ann Dark, just back from Oviedo in Spain with the Young Riders Team, riding in the European Team Endurance Championships. She was part of a 5 strong team - Kay Counter on Cheeky Charlie, Carri-Anne Dark on Elmstead's Poloistique, Beth Langley on HS Ametista, Sarah Rogerson on Gryphon and Abbi Tennant on Chador. The team came 4th overall and this was the best result the Young Riders have had in a Major Championship for some years[they were fifth of the European Nations in the last World Championship] particularly as they were very close to challenging for medals this time out . The team are determined to improve on it again in the World Championships next year in Hungary. Carri-Ann started her endurance career here in the South West, so we are all especially interested in how she got on!
