TypES OF MEMBERSHIP

Anyone can take part in an EGB pleasure ride but there are restrictions on what type of ride & distance different types of members can ride.

If you want to try out Endurance Riding to see if it would suit you & your horse there are several membership options available,

Supporter Membership
Associate Membership
Temporary Day Membership
Full Membership

Supporter Membership is free & can be the first step towards participating in Endurance as it allows you to enter any of our Pleasure Rides. You must join through the website & register your horse/horses. For rides that have on-line entries you can then use our on-line ride entry system (although not compulsory, you can still enter by post) which makes making an entry much easier. You will also receive by e mail our quarterly EGB magazine plus invitations to all our training & social events. At the end of the season the Supporter Member with the highest mileage will win a years free Associate Membership.

Associate Membership allows riders to enter any Group Pleasure Ride at the same discounted entry fee as Full Members. Associate Members also receive our EGB South West quarterly newsletter so you can keep up to date with what’s going on locally. You would be invited to attend any of our training & social events. All distance ridden is included for the Associate Member Highest Distance Award at the EGB SW Annual Awards evening. Associate Members receive the EGB Members Handbook which includes the national schedule of rides & the EGB national bi-monthly magazine. Associate members are invited nominate themselves for our popular annual Devon v Cornwall Team Challenge. If you decide to up-grade to full membership there is a discount in the joining fee. There is a discount for half year membership and
also for Young & Junior riders. Applications can be made on line.

Club Membership is an opportunity for Pony Club members, affiliated Riding Club members & members of ROR to enjoy Endurance. Club membership allows riders to enter a novice Graded Endurance Ride (GER) of up to 40km at members rates. This allows club members to experience their horse being vetted, to be able to see what speeds must be achieved & see how their horse copes with the distance.

Temporary Day Membership is also called ‘Try Before You Buy’. It provides an opportunity for those considering Endurance to enter a Novice Graded Ride (our lowest type of competition) This is purely to experience an Endurance ride, no trophy points will be awarded & the miles don’t count towards gaining Open Qualification but a rosette will be awarded to all horses that complete the course within the set time. This scheme is limited to two rides per applicant. Try Before You Buy can only be applied for on line.

Full membership allows riders to compete in any of our competitive rides anywhere in the country. You would also receive the EGB South West newsletter, National EGB magazine & EGB Members Handbook. Full members can attend all the training & social events, including the Annual Awards Dinner. At this event numerous prizes are awarded for points gained in Local & National Rides. Full Members could be chosen to represent the South West at Inter Regional competitions. The South West group is one of the most successful groups in the whole country for winning Inter Regionals & places on the team are much sought after. Full Membership also includes EGB insurance cover all year round.
